London based commercials and features house Archer’s Mark continue their expansion signing award winning French director Laurent Barthelemy.
Originally from Paris, Barthélemy established a reputation for innovation and visual ingenuity during his ten-year tenure as CG artist and designer/director at Psyop/Smuggler in New York. There he worked on AICP Award-winning HD spot Crow for MTV, as well as the Clio and Cannes Lion Award-winning spot Human Chain for Nike.
Recently he’s been at the helm of commercial projects for Nike, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Uniqlo and Google, for whom he directed Google Play which is currently the most viewed Google video on Youtube with over 75M hits to date. His epic Lunar ad for Nike also saw him deploy his famous visual effects skills and the stunning Concept AI Ad for Toyota, combines humorous performance with epic automotive visuals.
Archer’s Exec Producer Ben Whitfield commented;
“Laurent stood out to us immediately for the simple fact that his work demonstrates such a broad array of characteristics; high quality performance, slick cinematography, innovative visual design, bags of human emotion and narrative energy. We’re always looking for distinctive voices that stand out in the crowded market place and Laurent’s trajectory and experience has given his work such modern flavour. He felt to us like a director who will only become more and more relevant as commercial storytelling evolves, and that potential is what excites us.”
On top of commercials, Barthelemy meshes beautifully with Archer’s multi-award winning features pedigree, representing their desire to leverage high quality director’s who are just as comfortable in long form as they are short form. Barthelemy’s ambitious 2016 short film, Campers, stars César (French Oscars) winner Rod Paradot and made waves across the French industry, and he is currently in development on a documentary with boxing superstar Vasyl Lomachenko.
Archer’s Mark co-founder and BAFTA nominated producer of Notes On Blindness Mike Brett elaborated on this strategic view:
"Laurent’s sheer versatility is appealing to us, here is a guy that can deliver a truly distinctive concept ad for Toyota and in the same breath negotiate access to the world’s most exciting boxer to develop a global feature proposition that is already getting the attention of major broadcasters and the VOD community. Our outlook on commercial content and entertainment moving forward is that we want to be in a blur the lines between the two, producing genuinely exciting work and talent with cross-disciplinary appeal."
Archer’s Mark will represent him in the UK and Europe.
