Earlier in the year Lola were given an amazing opportunity to create the promo trailer for Melvyn Braggs’ ‘South Bank Show’. The brief was to have Melvyn walking through an urban subway, which has videotapes embedded into the wall in graffiti like style, of guests who will feature on the show.
First we took stills of Leake Street subway to capture the scale and dimensions of the whole thing, and for the beautiful graffiti that we would later need to use as a background in the CG subway. Our 3D department then used these stills as reference whilst mocking up the CG subway. We used the stills of the real graffiti and embedded them into the walls of our CG environment to create a realistic and urban look.
We then shot Melvyn in a green screen studio, and once the offline was ready, our 2D department got to work at cleaning up the shots. We then tracked and composited each shot into the CG subway. The Sky team supplied us with animated artwork, which we then strategically placed and integrated into the walls.
The promo trailer went through a stage of approvals, which once given the thumbs up, was finished and graded in our Flame suite.
