Nucco Brain x Rebel Girls Present 'Moon Landing: The Story Of Margaret Hamilton'

31 July 2019

The Rebel Girls Moon Landing project was developed to celebrate women’s involvement in the space programme, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the successful Apollo 11 mission.

Adapting the script from one of Rebel Girls’ podcasts, we developed a slick, elegant two and a half minute animation on the story of Margaret Hamilton. Margaret was an integral part of the Apollo 11 mission, writing much of the code used for the computers. She’s one of the people credited with coining the term ‘software engineering’.

Working within the style guidelines proposed by the client, we developed a range of concepts and moodboards for the client to mix and match from, allowing them to combine approaches for a distinct aesthetic based on their brand colours.

From our point of view, this was a golden opportunity to work in frame-by-frame animation, a style many clients can’t afford. It’s a rich style of animation, allowing our creatives to flex across our studio, collaborating to create a stunning final effect.

For this style, we used CC Animate, based on Flash.

The result was an animation that didn’t just communicate an important story, but looked visually stunning as well.
