The Works win award for "Best Re-record" at inaugural music and sound awards

03 April 2012

The BBC trailer titled "Remarkable Moments" with Sir David Attenborough wins the coveted award for "Best Re-record" at the Music and Sound Awards 2012. Up against the big advertising campaigns of the year, including two of John Lewis' Christmas campaigns which both featured re-records produced by major lables and signed artists and the much hyped Thomson "Time for a Holiday" spot, the two and a half minute trailer that was a collaboration by RKCRY&R, Red Bee and The Works came through and scooped the award for Nick Payne (arranger and producer) and creatives Ted Heath and Paul Angus at RKCRY&R.

The trailer also picked up no less than 2 Gold's and 1 Silver at the recent BTAA's and was nominated for a further award at the Music and Sound Awards for "Best Use of Existing Music in a Trailer or Promo". The piece features a re-record of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" narrated by David Attenborough with a backing track produced in-house at The Works and was made to celebrate Sir David's incredible career and honour him at 85 years old as he narrated his final series, Forzen Planet for the BBC. The short film was first aired after the concluding part of the series on BBC 1.

"We were incredibly proud to be able to contribute to such a project honouring a national treasure such as Sir David Attenborough and thrilled when the piece won the Award for 'Best Re-record'" explained Nick Payne who went on to add, "The idea of having Sir David speak the words of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" was simply inspired and producing the instrumental backing around his voice was quite honestly a delight".

The Works are gaining a good reputation for their re-versioning and adaptations of songs for commercials and have recently been commissioned to re-work the classic "Feeling Good" for the BBC's The Voice advertising campaign, produced a brass band rendition of Dizzee Rascal's "Bonkers" for T-Mobile and rearranged "Dream a Little Dream" for piano, guitar and string orchestra currently being used on all the Premier Inn spots by RKCRY&R.
