Fresh Film’s renowned director/photographer Chris Craymer has directed his first short film ‘Gifts of the Heart’, inspired by a chance discovery that recipients of a heart transplant can inherit certain personality traits or desires of the donor.
The film presents a poignant journey of a young widow as she comes to understand that her late husband’s heart has given more than just the gift of life to the recipient. The story is about her realisation that life is full of mystery and charts her growth as an emotional being.
Chris lives in the USA, but was born in England and felt compelled to film in the English countryside. The language, mindset and landscape of the UK all combined to draw him back to a favourite location of his, Camber Sands. The raw wildness of the area and the typically English settings make the perfect backdrop for this emotive film.
Of his film Chris says: ‘My idea was to create a character driven narrative where the protagonists are compelled by their subconscious needs, which gradually define their emotional needs. My story is completely fictional, but was inspired by the many stories I researched about the way in which a heart transplant gives more than just the gift of life to the recipient. It also appears to allow the donor to live on in some way we cannot logically explain”.
The trailer is now released with the full film being scheduled for release next year.
It has also been selected for several festivals both in America and internationally.
